补刀 – A Poem by J H Martin

补刀

My friend escaped from battle
My home is now a room

My things are up for sale
This town is closing down

Today I heard
They are raising taxes

Expecting growth
From all that’s gone

Foraging for winter food
I wonder what the cherry thinks

The wood is chopped
The leaves are gathered

The blossom keeps no promises
