A New Coat – A Poem by J H Martin

A New Coat

Cold wind
Late September

These worn soles
Lead to bad knees

And this wax
Has all but dried

I know I could
But I am not confident

The flakes in my pocket
Have become a pouch

And the tape has nearly gone

Looking down
At where you once stood
I shake and nod my head

A little more time
Is no longer enough

These things
Are coming apart at the seams

It would be wise –
Grey monkey wise

To find yourself a new coat
Before winter arrives
